A Wizard A True Star?
Stiv LeStar has described his music as ( jokingly?) Hall and Oates meets Ziggy Stardust, a glam rock absurdest with a love of Gamble and Huff soul music. Taking a cue from the psychedelic soul bands of the 1960s, 1970s, Stiv LeStar’s influences range from Stevie Wonder “Talking Book”, Earth Wind and Fire, Todd Rundgren’s “A Wizard a True Star” Shuggie Otis, The Delfonics, The Stylistics to esoteric Japanese electronic music Riuchi Sakamoto YMO, Tomita and The Sadistic Mika Band. Add to this a Dadaist, Salvidore Dali approach to some of the production and we have Stiv LeStar. Much of the music of the 1970s was laced with black soul influences that are still timeless today. There are not many white alternative music artists that can take up the challenge to emulate the emotional styles of The Drifters and The Dells without parody. Stiv has a special love of the Philadelphia soul bands that incorporated orchestra, super melodies and real drum beats. Obviously Stiv’s whiter than snowhite image is at odds with the music he creates. Quotes Stiv: “I prefer to defy those first impressions, where individuality trumps any preconceived notions of DNA helix patterns, sycophantic stereotyping, small dick sexism, visual orientation or time spacial continuity” Yea, whatever, anyway some of the toons are pretty catchy.
The music recorded on his new forthcoming CD album 2084 is an amalgamation of synthesized electronic music that meets up with the styles of rhythm and blues along with soul ballad music. Get a preview of the new glam soul Stiv LeStar video ” Love in the Future” a blend of 4 part harmony whiter shade of soul meets The Nazz and Todd Rundgren. The new CD, 2084 will be released hopefully well before 2084. So stay tuned Mont fans, this ain’t easy on a single shoestring budget!
