Jobriath The Song by David Bowie, not
The band Balcony is probably most infamous for its free upload song “Jobriath” attributed to David Bowie, Scott Walker, Nick Cave, David Sylvian and fk knows who else. “Jobriath” was uploaded by a well meaning fan who thought it would generate interest and it did, along with making Balcony look like a marketing team rather than a band. The idea behind the song Jobriath, now a free MP3 download is if David Bowie wrote a swan song for Jobriath. I thought how cool would that be! The father of glam rock, acknowledging the fallen prodigal son of glitter’s end, what drama, what pathos! Those in the know realize Jobriath was Ziggy Stardust in full catastrophic entropy. The song by Balcony is on the “Before Needs” album, the second CD by Balcony. At the time of writing the song Jobriath, Morrisey had yet to release the complete Jobriath catalog to digital CD. Meaning Jobriath’s music was not available anywhere, an artist signed for a reputed million dollars? If you are interested in the full quality version of “Jobriath” or the full Balcony CD “ before needs” visit the shop and order.
Jobriath Balcony | Till the Band Comes Out
The band Balcony has three releases 777 ( out of print), Before Needs and Sparrows and Hawks. Sparrows and Hawks bridges the seemingly impossible gap between glam rock and prog rock. Strange at first impressions, glam rock was influenced by progressive music, sans the 17 min mellotron flute interludes. Roxy music’s Brian Eno came from the same British intellectual cloth as King Crimson’s Robert Fripp. Eno and Fripp later played on the Bowie Berlin trilogy albums. There are numerous other glam rock, prog rock marriages, David Bowie ripping Van Der Graph Generator riffs, etc. Sparrows and Hawks is a concept album in the vein of 1970s prog rock bands, although the songs are three minutes as opposed to a Caravan, Yes, Genesis half hour guitar solo headache. Sparrows and Hawks is a 27 song 2-CD set with limited availability. There will be two more new Balcony release “Cardinal Follies” and “Till The Band Comes Out” and then all glam rock, prog rock material will be under the new performing band “Meadow Zero”
As a footnote about Jobriath, most rock music critics pawn Jobriath off as glam rock anomaly or simply a crusader for “gay music” I think he was more than this, he was actually “a real artist” not some Black Dalia sideshow. If you listen to his work pre or post ” Jobriath” you will find a deeply committed musician and chameleon who in many ways outdid the off Broadway fantasy of of “Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars”. He remade, remodeled that reality dressed in a tuxedo and living a glass pyramid, much stranger than the Ziggy Stardust fiction. I believe if Bruce Campbell was born in an era of canned music, or our age of “supposed” tolerance, he would probably suffer a fate of obscurity, far outside the wondrous dreams of the wild eyed boy from freecloud, Jobriath.
The long awaited twenty seven(27 birds) song, prog rock double CD from balcony. Almost a decade in the making "sparrows and hawks" is a "concept record" an homage to the 1970s heyday of progressive overbearing art/rock/music.
The British band Balcony's long awaited "sparrows and hawks" is a double CD which contains twenty seven thematic songs forming a "concept record" in the tradition of all the great long winged 1970s records you hide from your punk friends; Yes, Caravan,The Moody Blues,Genesis, Pink Floyd, etc. Also mingled with some "glam rock" concepts such as the David Bowie albums "Ziggy Stardust" and Diamond Dogs" Writer, multi-instrumentalist, singer, producer Steven Lester describes the record concept as being "conceptual" Replete with Jeremy Irons, Mike Pinder Orwellian sonic poetry voice overs, trippy segues, 70s synth effects and song that is a dead ringer homage to 10cc's "I'm Not In Love" Sparrows and Hawks delivers in spades the the look, feel, sound and haze of 1970s progressive/glam rock music.

The classically based "piano for Europe" is Steve Aungle's instrumental masterpiece. Piano/keyboard wizard behind "The Associates" Billy Mackenzie albums such as "beyond the sun" and "eurocentric" Steve delivers an emotional and technical display of classical inspired music in the face of overblown electronic meltdown.
The keyboard mastermind behind electronica records such as "eurocentric" Steve Aungle turns to the acoustic based piano forte for a technical and emotional classical thrash instrumental record. With shadows of just some of the stylings he worked on the Billy Mackenzie "beyond the Sun" Steve shows his brilliance and economy at his keyboard of choice.
From the midlands UK comes singer songwriter Seacon, adorned in pastoral depression courtesy of Nick Drake, David Sylvian, Raymond Froggatt influences. This acoustic based record has a folk-jazz vibe with flourishes of The Soft Machine, Robert Wyatt, Henry Cow type progressions.
